2nd Global Forum IFPS  
IFPS is pleased to announce their second global forum to be held at Fruit Logistica on the 9th of February 2012 and I have the pleasure of inviting all fresh produce professionals to attend.
This forum, “Global Harmonization of Fresh Produce Standards”, will be free to all Fruit
Logistica registered attendees in Berlin. Several international speakers will be there to update the global fresh produce industry on what is
happening with respect to Food Safety, Product Identification and Supply Chain Information Management.
I would like to acknowledge Fruit Logistica’s support for this Forum and I look forward to meeting you in Berlin.

The forum is aimed at business directors and company managers involved in the global supply of fresh produce – from grower to retailer and all points in between, including packhouse, logistics, warehouse, transport, and IT.
The forum is three sessions on the following topics:

• Supply Chain Information Management

standards. Although production and processing methods will vary for different commodities and regions global standards are needed in the global market for Fresh produce. In this session attendees will be updated about the state of the art on harmonisation and standarisation in Fresh Produce. What’s happening? What should happen?

Can a transparant Tracking & Tracing system protect the
industry for the fall-out of demand in a crisis like EHEC? In Europa we had the EHEC-crisis where all kinds of fresh products were accused to have bacteria on it. Till the day of today there is no proof that is was so. But the impact on the industry was gigantic. Markets collapsed, growers complete yields go down the drain. The question which is often coming up is if a fully transparant trabebility system on product level prevent
a crisis in market like this. As a member of the Dutch EHEC-crisis team J. Vooijs shares with you the things the Dutch learned from this crisis.

The challenges in implementating GS1 standards in fresh Tracebility. The US retailers and Fresh produce industry is working together on the Product Tracebility initiative. Here in they are using International GS1 Standards for identifying cases and pallets to secure food safety in the Fresh produce chain. In this presentation you get an update on this project. What functions? What not?

Fresh Foods: Smarter, Safer, Fresher with GS1 DataBar
The GS1 Databar can be used to place small barcodes on Fresh Produce. Global Retailers are implementing the technology on there Point-of-Sale for Check-out. But how far are the retailers in this proces? How are they using Databar in Fresh produce? Topics will include new strategies such as Expiration Date Management, Automatic Markdowns and what’s needed to implement GS1 DataBar in your chain.

Give new technologies us an opportunity to connect from the fruit direct to the grower?
The upcoming of the databar and QR-code in combination with smartphones give us opprtunities to connect directly to the grower at consumer level. A hughe opporunitie in marketing were standardisation plays a hugh role. J. Stroeken shares with you his challenge in exloring the opportunities in the use of smartphones in fruit & vegetable marketing.
